丁 정 榮 영 一 일
Whenever people ask about my name and the Chinese characters
that stand for it, they are surprised that my name uses “han il(一)” probably the simplest character. Korean names that are based on the
characters, usually borrow characters that have gorgeous meaning and a lot of
strokes that form a stylish shape. My name, on the other hand, is a lot
simpler. The simplicity however does not hinder my name from being meaningful
even more than other names.
“Younghwa Young (榮)” means success, prosperity and blossoming and “han
il(一)” means the number, one. As the way many Chinese words are formed, the
latter part of the word describes the first part. Therefore, my name, to make a
literal translation, means one success. However, I would not want my life to be
successful only myself. One success may mean a singular or unique but not only
success. I would like my life to be blossoming with others as well too.
